Swan bake
Some time ago New Statesman magazine asked its readers to come up with the perfect tabloid headline. The winner was, if I remember correctly, “Sex change bishop in palace mercy dash”.
The point is that British media have their buzzwords too. It’s just that rather than ‘leveraging best practice’ they tend to be ‘asylum seekers’, ‘Royal’, ‘Jordan’, ‘love rat’, ‘Beckham’ and, at this time of year, ‘Henman’.
Hence this morning’s classic Sun front page:
After all, what in this excellent world could be more imporant than a bit of poaching?
I would suggest that the New Statesman’s perfect headline needs updating. Something like ‘ASYLUM SEEKERS PLOT BECKHAM KIDNAP’ would be about right. But that would be ridiculous, wouldn’t it?
