Sadness
Sorry, everyone, but we have lost Meg, our Miss Best Friend. It was only when we were back on a train a couple of hours ago that we re-entered radio contact, the mountains of Snowdonia having left us completely cut off since the last communique, and caught up with a lunchtime message from the Northern Gentleman. She completely lost the use of her legs, which happened once before: when it did, the vets solemnly warned us that if it happened again that was it, since she was already on the strongest everythings they could prescribe for her. The Northern Gentleman and his missus got the vet to come out, who and said the situation was hopeless, so … it’s always so sad, but her declining months have contained a great deal of ham, and I really don’t think she has been unhappy.

All our condolences. Such sad news… We loved Meg dearly and will not forget her lovely way of ‘talking’ to her ham.

Sorry you have lost your good dog. This week at Wildacres Retreat (an artist, writers, and etc. hideaway in the NC mountains) we met a theological type whose most recent pastoral placement was as the Chaplain at the Vet School in Raleigh. His primary mission was to help vets and owners deal with grief. We do love our best friends.
