Depth Charge

We had a further go of plumbers today. Some questions have been answered (we still don’t have the washing machine back, literally, on line). But an additional, separate, problem has been absence of central heating; it sort of works upstairs and doesn’t work downstairs at all. The diagnosis is summable-uppable with the word ’sludge’, a build up of this & that over ten years, which has clogged the pipes. What is needed could be vulgarly described as colonic irrigation for boilers, otherwise, in plumber speak, a ‘power flush’. The insides of the system will be mercilessly rummaged. It will take a v. long time and be expensive, but since the alternative seems to be not having any heating, they had better get on with it. The plumber said it was all so disruptive they’d rather have the place to themselves (before anyone comments on this, we have reason to trust these blokes), so they will do in on Thursday when we are at work; we will either come home to functioning heating, or, I suppose, the results of a flatulent explosion of sludge in one direction or another, with some variation on, ‘I didnae think it’d dae that’. Here’s hoping.
